Sharing God's Bounty
by The Rev. Cindy Fribourgh on December 4, 2014The success of St. Margaret’s fall outreach programs is a lovely reflection of our love for God and our neighbor, and compassion for those in need.
St. Margaret’s generosity really shone through during the Simple Gifts Fair on November 23 and November 30. Beatitudes sales for the two Sundays was $1,557 for colorful handmade items created by women in Haiti; and Rice Depot’s sales were $1,245 for products including hot chocolate and wassail mix, muscadine jelly, and of course, rice!
Through Simple Gifts, St. Margaret’s also contributed $135 to St. Francis House; and gifts for women’s literacy and for reforestation to Episcopal Relief and Development. A number of parishioners stopped by the Heifer International table and picked up information about the program and online giving.
Our EYC’s November drive to assist student refugees at Hall High School brought in 279 personal product items including toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, shavers, a pedicure set, and other necessary toiletries. A total of 226 school supply items were collected, which included notebooks, backpacks, peanut butter snacks, glue sticks, a total of 108 pencils, and more!
The All-Saints Day Candy Tithe brought in a total of 40 pounds of candy, which was “bought back” by Suri Othrodontics’ Candy Program to include in Operation Gratitude’s care packages for troops serving overseas.
The United Thank Offering “blue boxes” were presented October 19 – we collected $513.67 which will be used for domestic and international grants. The focus of UTO is to collect change for daily blessings such as great weather, the love of our families, and a tasty meal. St. Margaret’s Women’s Group organizes our UTO ingathering.
Thank you to all who participated with generous contributions of time, talent and treasure, and especially through prayer.
