10 Questions with Al Eckert

by anonymous on January 13, 2017
We are beginning a new series of regular interviews with members of our congregation. Taking a cue from Inside the Actor's Studio with James Lipton we are asking 10 questions that will help us learn about and from one another. Our guest this month is our new Senior Warden, Al Eckert.

1. What is your favorite word and why?
My favorite word is "agree".  Usually when people agree, positive results occur.

2. What is your least favorite word and why?
My least favorite word(s) are curse words.  I am as guilty as anyone, but our culture has become too accepting in every aspect of words that have a better alternative.

3. What makes you alive?
Seeing success and accomplishments occur, no matter how small, in every task or daily aspect of our lives.

4. What gets in your way?
Negativity and self-doubt - sometimes we need to get out of our own way to find the solution to succeed.

5. What is your favorite hymn or spiritual song?
Amazing Grace - I find the story of John Newton fascinating.

6. What helps you experience God?
A time of reverence and contemplation - it is a part of St. Margaret's each Sunday that fulfilled a need for me when searching for a new church home.

7. What makes it hard for you to experience God?
When the clutter, stress and distractions of everyday life invade the time for reverence and prayer.  St. Margaret's provides that sanctuary for prayer and support.

8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
How about a relief pitcher?  In reality, an Athletic Director at a university would be interesting.

9. What is your favorite book or movie?
Impossible! However, one of my favorites that always comes to mind is Lawrence of Arabia (I enjoy historical based movies).  That said, everyone should be required to see Shindler's List and Saving Private Ryan for obvious reasons.

10. Where do you see God's kingdom coming into the world?
I see this whenever I see anyone doing something to help or assist another person.  I think people just feel better whenever they can help another.
