EYC (Episcopal Youth Community)

EYC (Episcopal Youth Community)
is for youth in 6th - 12th grades.

The mission of St. Margaret's EYC is to share the love of Christ with others
through our words and actions by welcoming everyone, reaching out to those in need,
building friendships, having fun, growing together as a community,
and developing our life with Christ in a fun and healthy atmosphere.

The Episcopal Youth Community (E.Y.C.) is a wonderful and vibrant community made up of youth in 6th-12th grade.  E.Y.C. is a chance to meet for fellowship, formation, and stewardship for the church and the community.

The E.Y.C. participates in wonderful activities like Super Bowl Parties and Life-Size Games of CLUE, events with other Little Rock churches, state-wide youth events, the Camp Mitchell Summer Program, monthly community outreach projects, and Spring & Summer trips.  Past trips have included Disney World, a relief trip to the Gulf Coast, and a float trip on the Buffalo River.

Weekly Schedule

Monday – “Project Dreamland” meets in the Flag & Banner Building (800 W. 9th) in downtown Little Rock from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

This group is busy building community and creating a space for the youth of Little Rock to use for local events, like our annual “Christmas Open Mike Night”.  This group meets to help clean an area that the owner has graciously given us for fellowship and we also spend time upstairs in the old “Dreamland Ballroom” in weekly reflection and prayer.

Sunday – Sundays are broken into two parts:

Part One:  Christian Formation
The Christian Formation hour is split by grades, with the Rite-13 group (middle school) meeting in the Library with Jimmy Kyle, and Elizabeth Fortune.  The Sr. High Group meets in the youth room with Mark Fortune, Kay Carle, and Griffin Coop.

The Rite-13 program is a part of a larger program known at Journey To Adulthood (J2A).  The program focuses on teaching youth about the church, themselves, and the world through topics on prayer, outreach, adolescence, and the Episcopal Church and it’s liturgy.

The Sr. High program focuses on particular themes each semester and uses a “hands-on” approach to teaching, taking advantage of Biblical teachings, open-forum discussions, as well as art, small group work, and prayer.

Part Two:  E.Y.C.
E.Y.C. is what the program on Sunday nights is known as in the church.  This group meets typically ffrom 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., but times and places do vary.  This group focuses on the community aspect and enjoys such activities as Life-Size Games of CLUE, video scavenger hunts, game nights, bowling, putt-putt golf, popcorn theology (movie night), and other programs such as the “Where is God in…?” series, which focuses on seeing, hearing, and feeling God’s presence in music, pop culture, movies, and seasons such as Christmas and Lent.  This time is also set aside for community with other church youth groups and we broaden the churches horizon to include more than just our small community.  We use activities such as trips to the Climbing Center, camping trips, ice skating outings, outreach events, and seasonal parties like Halloween, Christmas, and the Super Bowl to come to know the youth and adults from other Episcopal churches as well as youth from other denominations.  The St. Margaret’s E.Y.C. has a great history of working and playing with other groups and taking trips with other groups to help build this larger community.

Other Programs

OutreachThe youth of St. Margaret’s participate in monthly outreach projects throughout the community and beyond.  The youth group has put together food bags for people to keep in their cars for the hungry they meet, collected school supplies for the children of Iraq, cleaned and painted St. Francis House, put together Thanksgiving Baskets, and participated in a relief trip to Ocean Springs, Mississippi last March with the youth of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
