About Silence Before Services

The Lord is in His Holy Temple, let all the earth keep silent before Him. Psalm 11:4

We enter Williams’ Hall in silence and keep silence until the Processional.

We use this time to:

Kneel or sit and greet God, the Lord of the House and our Host.

Kneel or sit to say private prayers, for ourselves and others.

Read the collect and/or lessons and to meditate on them.

Behold the furnishings and meditate on their meaning and symbolism.

Prepare ourselves to offer our worship to God.

Let the Prelude music soothe and calm our soul.

We enter the room in silence in recognition that we are entering Sacred Space and are about to perform a Holy activity. Our entering in silence does not mean that we are not permitted to acknowledge those around us. It does mean that we do so quietly and unobtrusively. For us, fellowship with each is appropriately done in the Welcome Center after Worship.

Our silent reverence before worship is one thing that attracts others to our worship. Lower your voice as you enter Williams’ Hall, there may already be others in the room preparing themselves.

You are invited to keep this custom.
