Princess Program for Young Women ages 12 to 18
Meets
Tuesday mornings during the summer, culminating in the inaugural
Cinderella Ball at the Gov. Mansion, coming up on September 26, 2008. This
summer-long program will be training the Princesses to identify
students in their schools who might be victims of physical or sexual
abuse and certifying them to lead peer groups. After all,
teens relate best to other teens, and many young people feel more
comfortable disclosing violence to a peer rather than an adult.
Please take a look at the attached Princess Packet and Nomination Form. You probably know a few girls in this age range, 12-18. Maybe your
daughter, granddaughter, friend of the family or neighbor.
We're only allowing 10 Princesses this year. They can only be nominated
through the staff, Board of Directors, committee members, etc. That
would be me! If you know of a young lady that would like to experience
this amazing opportunity please let me know asap! If you have any
questions after reading the program call our Princess Committee
Chairperson, Kerri Skelton at work (501-367-5030) or on her cell (501-773-3701). Kerri is looking forward to hearing from you!!!
Please feel free to also call me at 765-5853 or send me an email. For
more information on the Cinderella Ball and how you can be a sponsor or
silent auction item contributor, please call me.
Thanks to each of you for your attention to this important effort.

Cathedral Festival
|
May 16-18, 2008
Trinity Cathedral in the historic Quapaw district is
taking full advantage of an early
Easter. Normally Trinity Sunday occurs when schools are out and summer
vacations are underway but this year the Cathedral is determined to celebrate
the church Feast for which it is named.
The Cathedral, together with the Cathedral School, is
hosting a three day Festival from May 16 thru 18. Thanks to sponsors Meadors,
Adams and Lee, Flag and Banner and Moses Tucker, a glittering line-up of events
has something for everyone to enjoy and will offer a chance for Arkansas
Episcopalians to see one of its most historic churches in celebratory mood.
On May 16, the Festival will recreate the Twenties era
for an event called Gatsby in the Garth. The Garth is the courtyard at the side
of the Cathedral and that night it will swing to the sounds of the popular Bob
Boyd Orchestra. Period costume is
encouraged for this event.
On Saturday May 17, the Garth will be transformed into a
busy Parish Fair with booths featuring local artists, carnival games and food.
There will be a chance to tour the
historic Cathedral and to hear its full peal of tower bells.
On the evening of May 17, a special Gala Concert will
take place. The cathedral has always been known for the quality of its music
program and the Cathedral Choir will be joined by guest soloists and members of
the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra for an evening of music by Mozart. The ever
popular Eine Kleine Nachtmusik will be followed by the beloved Ave Verum and a
performance of the Solemn Vespers of a Confessor. The Vespers include the
famous Laudate Dominum to be sung by soprano soloist Christine Westhoff.
On May 18, a Festival Eucharist will be followed by a
reception on the grounds of the Governors Mansion.
Tickets for Gatsby in the Garth cost $25 and can be
purchased at the Cathedral (501)
372-0294 or the Cathedral School (501) 375-7997. The Gala
Concert at 7:30 is free but early arrival is recommended.
