Launching the Ark: The Incredible Journey
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the priorities for our campaign?
A: The vestry has set the following priorities for the "Launching the Ark" campaign:
- Pay off the outstanding diocesan debt of $150,000
- Pay off the first mortgage
- Pay off the line of credit (second mortgage)
- Build a new education wing for additional programming and worship
- Remodel and refurbish our existing building to meet programming and maintenance needs
Q: Why didn't we pay off the mortgage with funds from the 2003 capital campaign?
A: The 2003 campaign raised $1,121,613 for the reduction of our total debt at that time of $1.7 million. We have received $1,043,008 to date. These funds have been applied to that debt as those pledges have come in.
Q: How will the proposed education wing be used for St. Margaret's?
A: The new wing will be used for Sunday school space for adults and youth (fourth through twelfth grades.) St. Margaret's staff offices and Spiritus offices will also be located in this new building.
Spiritus is a center for research, education and training in theology, spirituality, and ministry. Programs which will support the House of Prayer, the Institute for Theological Studies, training for youth and young adult ministries, and continuing education for clergy will be located here. It will also serve as a center for outreach into the community. In addition to our own programs, we will offer space to other faith communities for training and retreats in conjunction with the House of Prayer. It will also offer us a place for additional worship services.
Q: What is the Institute for Theological Studies?
A: The Institute for Theological Studies offers courses at St. Margaret's at various times throughout the year. Examples of classes that have already been offered include "Mysteries of Christ" and "Darwin in Christian Perspective." These courses are an outreach from St. Margaret's to the community at large, with special efforts made to include scientists and others with special interest in exploring relations between Christian belief and scientific learning.
Q: How long is this campaign?
A: We are inviting all to make a pledge or give a three-year commitment; however, you may extend that to four or five years to enable you to give more.
Q: May I make a gift of property or real estate, give stocks or securities, art, collectibles, antiques or other special gifts, other than cash?
A: We are able to accept gifts of stocks, securities and all forms of appreciated property. Please don't sell the stocks; give them directly to St. Margaret's. We will help prepare the appropriate paperwork to easily effectuate a gift of property to the church. If you give art, jewelry, or collectibles which we than can sell on eBay and the value is over $5,000, you will need an appraisal for your charitable deduction.
