More than we can Ask or Imagine

Stewardship 2022

As we prepare to celebrate St. Margaret's Day on November 13 this year, we're taking our encouragement from the letter to the Ephesians (3:14-21)

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.

From the first century, this letter has been offering a prayer for the whole church, that:

  • we may be strengthened in our inner being with power through his Spirit;
  • Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith;
  • we may know the breadth and length and height and depth of God;
  • and that we may know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.

If we look we can see how God's power, working in us, is doing "infinitely more than we can ask or imagine."  Recently, some of our church members reflected on how we are seeing God's power at work in us.  Take a look at the videos at the bottom of this page to hear about what they are observing.

Thinking about Giving

Giving is a spiritual discipline to which all members are invited to commit themselves.  Here are a few thoughts to consider as you think about your giving:

1.  Estimate your giving for the coming year: Each year, everyone who is a part of the community of St. Margaret's is invited to offer a giving estimate for the following year.  Also known as a pledge, the estimate gives each of us an opportunity to prayerfully consider how much we would like to contribute to sustain and strengthen the ministries of our church.  Together, our estimates allow the vestry to plan ahead and make a budget.  If something unexpected happens your giving estimate can always be adjusted.

2.  Give Proportionally: Following the teachings of scripture, Christians are encouraged to think proportionally about giving.  What percentage of your income would you like to devote as an offering to God?  A tithe (10%) is the biblical standard, and it's a great spiritual goal to reach for as we seek to honor God and make an impact with our giving.  If you're not ready to give 10%, choose a starting place (maybe 5%), and see if you can increase that a little each year until you've reached a tithe.  No matter the amount of your giving, every gift is honored, appreciated, and makes a difference!

3.  Give Generously: The annual operating budget for St. Margaret's includes all kinds of good stuff worth supporting: clergy and staff to provide teaching and ministry; funds to support the mission of the church around Arkansas; monies to provide supplies for classes; and funds to keep our buildings and grounds useful, beautiful, and accessible.  This year, the vestry would like to expand the outreach offerings of our budget - giving to the organizations that matter to all of us.  We hope to give more to Camp Mitchell, St. Francis House, the Interfaith Center, the House of Prayer, and the Seminary of the Southwest.  Your generous giving will support our generous giving!

4.  Give Regularly: Giving is connection.  It is an expression of our love for God and our commitment to God and one another.  In this way, giving is like any other spiritual practice - it's most effective when we do it regularly.  However you give, consider making it a habit by giving weekly, monthly, or quarterly.  Set a schedule through your bank or through Realm, and know that your generosity is sustaining the church throughout the year.

When you're ready, please offer your 2023 giving estimate.
